IOM Commends Government of Iraq’s Adoption of Momentous Law on Yazidi Female Survivors

On 1 March, the Iraqi Council of Representatives adopted the Law on Yazidi Female Survivors. The passage of the law represents a watershed moment in efforts to address the legacy of ISIL crimes against Yazidis and other minority groups, as it officially recognizes acts of genocide against them and establishes a framework for the provision of financial support and other forms of redress to survivors.

IOM Iraq, the Returns Working Group, and Social Inquiry strive to build upon and complement previous assessments on durable solutions, mainly with regards to obstacles to return as well as progress toward local integration for IDPs. Home Again? Categorizing Obstacles to Returnee Reintegration in Iraq examines the prevalence of key obstacles for reintegration that returnee households face. It specifically focuses on the challenges faced by returnees towards their sustainable reintegration back home.

 

PANEL STUDY III: IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON SMALL- AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES IN IRAQ

To measure the losses and investigate how small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are coping with the economic impact of COVID-19, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Iraq, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and the International Trade Center (ITC) launched a panel study surveying 893 enterprises across 15 governorates of Iraq.

IOM Iraq signs Agreement with the Commission of Border Crossing Points

Baghdad — The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Iraq has signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC) with the Commission of Border Crossing Points. This agreement will lead to stronger migration and border management capacities for the Government of Iraq, through tailored interventions that aim to meet the objectives of the Global Compact on Migration and the national strategic framework, that includes the National Migration Strategy.

Iraqis living in Anbar Governorate experienced a myriad of atrocities during the occupation of Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). Although ISIL has fallen, both returnees and others continue to suffer from the consequences of the conflict, including mental and psychological symptoms. This Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) assessment outlines causes of these stressors and necessary steps to improve mental health and psychosocial well-being.
