Special Projects

  • A facility is being constructed for wool spinning and carpet weaving

IOM aims at integrating Kurdish wool and carpet producers in the regional value chain by establishing a wool hand-spinning and weaving facility in Khanke and facilitating the distribution of the end product in the local and regional markets. The business supports Khanke’s local economic development by employing 30 Yazidi women. The project will enhance the wool value chain and benefit local farmers, weavers, wool-spinners and other entrepreneurs dealing with raw wool and wool products in Kurdistan. The women who work in the facility may choose to bring their children to the workshop’s childcare area. The facility also has a training/meeting venue that will host community activities, and a cafe run by the women.
